Fusion Canberra has been partnering with University of Canberra High School Kaleen for more than 3 years.
This year we are providing a chaplaincy service in the school. Naomi Tafea is our Chaplain and works there 3 days a week, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays.
One of Naomi’s jobs is supporting and coordinating the Christian lunchtime group in the school. This group call themselves the “Mystic Monkeys”!
This term the group are going through a series on “faith” and each week they learn about a different aspect of faith. As a part of the series, the students are encouraged to put their faith into action, and so they have decided to do this by serving their school… in school holidays!
They have all decided to devote a few days of their upcoming school holidays to serve their school. For 3 hours a day over 3 days they will be working in the school garden.
The project involves weeding, picking up rubbish found in the garden, planting and other things. The project is organised by Fusion Canberra and other organisations and churches outside of the school will be partnering.
Members of Mystic Monkeys are aiming to positively impact the culture of their school community so it is more just, merciful and compassionate. So that people know they matter, are built up and helped to grow. The goal of the July school holiday project is that it is an opportunity continue this change.
