The teenage years are crucial. Decisions made here affect the rest of your life. And teenage years can be tough! School pressure, entry level jobs are limited, families are fragmented. 1 in 3 young people will experience a mental health condition. With families fragmented, who do youth turn to? Rather than the growing number of negative and unhelpful role models, Fusion creates safe environments where young people can belong.

PILGRIMAGE TO ULURU

This is one such safe place. This Fusion program is a 13 day camping trip to Uluru run at Easter each year since 2001. Over this time 4000+ young people from around Australia have taken part, and each been positively impacted through a deeper level of understanding of our vast and beautiful land, as well as encountering first hand the good, the bad and the ugly of our treatment of our Aboriginal brothers and sisters. COMMUNITY EDUCATION PROGRAM

A youth mentoring program that combines a supported work experience element with pre-vocational training and job readiness, we have run the CEP in Canberra since 2012. During that time 20+ high school aged students (some have been home schooled) have taken part which has built their confidence, self-esteem and grown their life skills. This has in turn helped them get clearer what they want to do in life. Run over 6 weeks, 1 day a week, this program is run in partnership with local high schools and volunteer adult mentors.

BREAKFAST CLUBS

Offering a free breakfast when students arrive at school, Fusion’s breakfast clubs are about creating a space where caring positive adult volunteers take an interest in student’s lives while serving them breakfast. Some students become peer helpers who in turn serve their peers breakfast which is great to build responsibility and leadership capacities.

YOUTH ADVOCACY

Fusion also organises events or activities, or supports ones that others are running, that raise awareness about current youth issues and needs. Sometimes such events have both an advocacy and fundraising edge to them such as our Sleep In Your Car event, or the Bright Run.

YOUTH ACTIVITIES

It can be so hard to find positive activities for youth so from time to time Fusion run adventure daytrips, evening activities or weekend activities that are heaps of fun where positive behaviour is encouraged and great role models lead by example. We also welcome young people to volunteer with us on our team to help organise sorts of activities or help in the many other areas of our organisation and operations.
