We are very proud of Wombat Wardrobe and Hand to Hand, two of Fusion Canberra’s social enterprises, and the work their volunteer teams are doing to build a sustainable Canberra – which is one where we believe no-body gets left behind.
Both shops recycle thousands of clothes, shoes, books, bric-a-brac, and many other items each year. This of course prevents them from becoming land fill in Canberra’s rubbish tips which are fast running out of space.
But these enterprises are building a sustainable future in many other ways.
The volunteer team members enjoy giving their time because it gives them a sense of purpose, and a sense of community. Two most important areas that have been shown to contribute to our overall health and well-being.
The enterprises are also contributing to a more sustainable community through both the connections made between volunteer team and the wider community as well as through the funds raised going back into supporting Fusion’s local youth and community work, as well as overseas in Africa (specifically at present Nigeria, Ghana and South Africa).
So please visit one or both of these very special stores today – and tell your friends and family to drop in as well!
