The Uluru Pilgrimage is a 13 Day opportunity for people to leave behind what’s normal and travel inland to experience the rich indigenous culture of Australia.

Coaches with young people, parents, teachers and youth workers from cities all over Australia travel for days on end stopping off at places like, Coober Pedy, Kings Canyon, Alice springs, Wilpena Pound, and the Coorong, gaining understanding. Activities include camping, bus aerobics, movies, reflections and journal/ diary time.

On arriving at Uluru, the Pilgrims participate in a fun packed education program which includes cultural exchange with Indigenous students and elders, and hosting a family festival and concert drawing people from around the Uluru region.

The Pilgrimage is proving to be a profound time of self-discovery arising from an engagement with Aboriginal culture and history and their own spirituality.

Participants begin to see themselves more clearly and to view those around them with respect and admiration.

Some common issues for young people such as alienation, bullying, violence, substance abuse and working at reconciliation are readily addressed through the embracing of values around learning when to be a “rock” (a steady one) and when to be a “stream”, (a flexible one, able to harmonise).

For twelve years the Pilgrimage to Uluru has been changing lives, changing perspectives, and changing the way young people feel about themselves and others.

The 2013 Pilgrimage will be leaving Canberra on Saturday 6th April 13 days till Friday 19th April.
