Did you know that on any given night, at least 1785 people are homeless in Canberra?

And 466 of these are between the age of 12-24 years…. and in fact, 289 of these are under 12 years of age – they’re kids!

Does this concern you at all? I firmly believe the answer to this question is a good indication of how self-absorbed each of us really are.

It can be so easy for our focus in life to be all on me… me… me (read our roving journo Jacob Traeger’s recent post for some more thoughts on this).

If you are like me, and this DOES concern you, why not register now for Sleep In Your Car 2015?

This year we are again running the Sleep In Your Car event, aimed at raising awareness about the important issue of youth homelessness and raising much needed funds to do something about it.

As part of scaling it up and broadening it’s reach, Fusion is going national with it, so it’s happening simultaneously in at least 8 locations in the week 2-9 August.

In Canberra we are joining in at Canberra College in Woden from 6pm on Saturday 8th August.

Sleep in your Car is about sleeping rough to raise awareness and funds for those doing it tough.

Yes, it will be COLD. Yes it probably will be FROSTY. Yes it will be UNCOMFORTABLE.

But it’s a way you can make a difference.

All proceeds will be split 50/50 between Fusion Canberra to be put towards our preventative youth support services, and the other half to Missionworx (www.missionworx.org.au), a community based organisation offering a heartfelt Christian response to the needs of the people of Canberra (based in Civic) including streetwork, basic living skills, food, blankets, tents, streetswags, transport and support for appointments, applying for refuge or housing, and the list goes on.

Why not register as a fundraiser and start inviting your friends, workmates, family and anyone who’ll listen to sponsor you!

You DEFINITELY won’t regret it.
