In an exciting new partnership between a high school, a church and Fusion Canberra, teenagers are getting the chance to learn valuable skills in bike repair and maintenance and at the same time help others doing it tough.

Over the last 3 Fridays, workers from Fusion Canberra, Nigel and Mark, and from LifeCity Church’s Pedals for People (P4P) program, have been spending an hour with students from University of Canberra High School Kaleen.

During the time they mentor the students in bicycle parts, repair, service and maintenance, all the while building positive emotional attachments with students which in turn strengthens their resilience and self-esteem.

Then to add to all these positive outcomes, the students get to donate the bikes to refugee families for whom having a reliable bike makes a world of difference in getting around Canberra and settling into their community.

Fusion Canberra is proud to be partnering with LifeCity Church and their Pedals for People program and with UC High School Kaleen.

We also are thankful for funding provided by the National Schools Chaplaincy and Student Welfare Program administered by the federal Department of Education, Employment, and Workplace Relations (DEEWR) for us to provide Mark Holberton, our full-time Schools Worker, and Student Welfare Worker at UC High School Kaleen. Without this funding we wouldn’t be able to make this partnership happen.

Fusion Canberra will be running a similar type of program again in the second half of the year.
