You might remember James from last year’s trip. He is the rapper who performed at the festival at the Uluru Resort where they stayed last year. He is featured in an earlier post :  A Pilgrims Story James Part I.  On this year’s trip in April, James shared his skills again and performed at the same festival held every year at that resort.

Last year he performed a cover of his favourite rapper: Eminem. This year, he wrote his own rap which painted a picture of his life.  From confusion, trauma and heartbreak, James found healing and love through his growing faith in God.  James was given the chance to perform his rap again at the 2014 Festival and he was nowhere near as nervous as he was last year.

James has grown and matured considerably since last year. This year he came on the trip as a peer leader, learning even more the second time around and helping others to learn some of the things he discovered last year about himself.  He also helped others to understand Indigenous culture, stories and people.

James opened up and shared even more of his story with the group than he had last year. This was incredibly moving for many on the trip, especially for one other young “pilgrim” who could relate strongly to the hardships that James had faced in his own life. Both were encouraged that they were not alone.  They both shared how they overcame the difficult times and the people who had helped them out.

Well done James!
