This morning as part of the “Parties at the Shops” initiative, Wombat Wardrobe and Fusion Canberra hosted a party at the Carleton St Shop in Kambah.

A lovely crowd gathered just after 11am and all present were invited to make a toast to Canberra and our 100th Birthday.

People from the community were invited to propose toasts. They included “to our special kids”, “to the best city in the world” and “heres to the next 100 years”.

All the shops in the shopping complex were introduced. They include:

  • Shabby Attic
  • Theo’s Takeaway and Pizza
  • DancEdge Studios
  • Creative Image Hairdressing
  • The Beauty Salon
  • Wombat Wardrobe
  • Fusion Canberra

The day was also to encourage local artists. Two local artists and a band were showcased.

  • Lani Geddes with her fascinating canvas paintings
  • Ben Davis Photography with breathtaking images of Canberra
  • Mind the Gap band

A local resident shared how they had been in Kambah as part of the first 700 homeowners back in 1975. They shared some history of the Carleton St Shops, including the story that before the shops were built there was a bus that was parked in the empty lot that served as a local newsagents selling lollies and milk and bread amongst other things.

All in all a fantastic time for a very special birthday!
